Network Engineer San Francisco - Financial District Site Operations Center (SOC)

The SOC is the focal point of Verizon Business’ Remote IP Application Management practice once a client passes into day-to-day operations.  The SOC’s mission is to manage client systems and provide a guaranteed business outcome.  Managing client systems consists of three principal elements:  a) Proactive – Monitoring the client system; b) Reactive – Resolving problems on the client system and; c) Change Management – Implementing change on the client system.  Verizon Business uses a three-tier support model to deliver service, with Tier One, Tier Two, and Tier Three support available in the SOC at all times.

Job Responsibilities:

To provide technical expertise in the area of managed networking infrastructure services and security. You will be required to understand the design, build, and functions of complex IP networks from the physical installation to the finished network using common industry tools such as Remedy, CiscoWorks, Tacacs, and HP Openview. You will be configuring routing protocols such as OSPF and BGP as well as other protocols such as IPSEC.

Required Skills:

-3 + years of experience in the network engineering field with hands-on experience with commonly used networking systems such as Cisco (IOS, CatOS, PIX) and Checkpoint.
-Intimate knowledge of routing and switching is a must (Routing tables, dynamic routing protocols, IOS access-lists, MAC, ARP, VLANs).
-Strong understanding of firewalls, Virtual Private Networks and load balancing.
-This job is suitable for an experienced CCNA or CCNP.
-The ideal candidate will have a BA or BS degree in a related field. He/She will have 3+ years of enterprise-level experience with Cisco IOS on the 2600 through the GSR12000 series, IOS/CatOS on Catalyst 6500 switches, Cisco CSS 11000-11500 series load balancers, Cisco Pix firewalls, F5 BigIP load balancers, Cisco VPN concentrators, and Nokia/Checkpoint appliances.

Additionally:

We provide a full lab for those seeking CCIE certification. There are several CCIE’s on our Network Engineering team from which other team members will learn in their pursuit of CCIE certification.

Job Hours:

This job requires shift work on either the day shift (7 AM to 7 PM PST) or the night shift (7 PM to 7 AM PST). Engineers generally work a 3 days on, 4 days off, then 4 days on, 3 days off schedule. There may be upcoming opportunities for an 8 AM to 5 PM PST timeslot for SOC Network Engineer candidates.
