Job description: Database Administrator
Provide DBA support in a heterogeneous environment including DB2 UDB and Oracle products on Solaris, AIX, HP-UX, Linux, and Windows platforms.
Work closely with an IT Manager in a three-person team to support server/network environment and users.
Major technical duties include:
* Primary DBA support of DB2 UDB and Oracle software environments.
* Secondary system administration support of 65+ Unix servers.
* Establishing user access controls and providing database security.
* Day-to-day proactive monitoring, including monitoring error logs, database and log space, user activity, and resource utilization.
* Monitoring and tuning system performance.
* Database backup and recovery.
* Creating scripts to automate database maintenance procedures and generate system reports.
* Creating and implementing best practices guidelines and policies.
* Capacity planning.
This position requires participation in a 24/7 on-call rotation for after-hours emergencies; requires carrying a cell phone, pager and/or a Blackberry.
Requirements and Skills
* Minimum 5+ years of database administration (DBA) experience on Unix platforms.
* Expert knowledge of and substantial experience with DB2 UDB 8.x is required.
* Experience with Oracle 10g, 9i or 8i is a very strong plus.
* Experience with DB2 and Oracle on Windows platform is a strong plus.
* Strong understanding of RDBMS and Unix Operating System fundamentals is required.
* Perl/sh/csh/ksh scripting skills are essential.
* Unix system administration experience, preferably Solaris and AIX, is highly desirable.
* Understanding of main Data Storage principles and RAID technology is a must. Experience with a disk volume manager (Veritas, DiskSuite, AIX LVM, or others) is required.
* Working knowledge of TCP/IP Networking is required. Solid knowledge of major Unix-based networking services and protocols (NIS, NFS, Automounter/Autofs) is essential.
* Exposure to integrated Unix-Windows environment with working knowledge of Windows 2000/2003 server and Microsoft Networking is a strong plus.
* SQL Server experience is a bonus.
* Experience supporting users in an engineering/developer environment is helpful.
